   Hi,

   My gelbox is on it's way! I'm hurriedly ordering some of the SYBRsafe dye as well.

   I usually use EtBr, though, and to be fair will probably still find a way to do so.

   I've got a couple of questions regarding the manufacture of the gelbox...

   1) what is the top filter? Is it comparable to the Cokin orange 002A that I would normally filter with?

   2) is there anything in the clear base that would block large portions of UV in the 312 nm range? See any problem with just sticking a UV lamp under the base rather than the blue LEDs?

   1.) The orange filter is a cutoff filter at approximately 500nm. It works for EtBr as well because EtBr fluoresces at a higher wavelength than SYBR class dyes. I use the orange filter for both SYBR and EtBR gels. However, for UV excitation of EtBr through acrylic, see answer #2.

   2.) I would recommend taking the gel out from the tray for best imaging results, as normally formulated Polymethyl methacrylate (Acrylic) blocks a large portion of UV wavelength. It would work still (leaving the gel in the clear tray) but you get much better pictures for UV if gel is taken out of tray and placed directly on the UV transilluminator glass surface. I personally don't take EtBr gels out of the clear tray myself (it's good enough for me to inspect bands by eye), only out from the Pearl Gel Box base since it has a white bottom diffuser.

   The gel box was originally designed for SYBR class dyes only. We are working on another version of gel box that works better with UV.

   The gel box was originally designed for SYBR class dyes only. We are working on another version of gel box that works better with UV.custom iphone cases
